Obama addresses vets in trip laden with politics – Quincy Herald-Whig | Illinois & Missouri News, Sports

U.S. officials said Monday that Obama has authorized surveillance flights over Syria, and a third said they have already begun, a move that could pave the way for U.S. airstrikes against Islamic State militant targets in that country. White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama was not likely to offer any details about his policy in the region. Earlier this month, Obama signed a $16.3 billion law aimed at easing the long waits that tens of thousands of military veterans had endured to get medical care. The law, a product of rare bipartisanship in the House and Senate, followed reports of veterans dying while awaiting appointments to see VA doctors and of a widespread practice of employees covering up months-long wait times for appointments.

There are more startups per capita in Israel than in any other country, yet the TA-25 has only one technology company among its members. That composition helped it outperform in March and April when a selloff in Internet and biotech stocks hit Israeli listings overseas on concern that valuations had become stretched. Now comes the reversal as local investor sentiment is souring amid slowing growth and the Gaza conflict while the Standard & Poors 500 Index, the benchmark for American equities, has soared to a record.

Obama “expressed his strong support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the White House said in a statement. Both men agreed that Russian intervention in the country would be unacceptable and violate international law unless it is preceded by Ukraine’s consent. Ukraine on Monday agreed to send humanitarian aid, including supplies from Russia, to a separatist stronghold under pressure from Moscow and Western capitals to do more to ease civilian suffering. Russia’s contribution will be part of an international package backed by the U.S. and Europe and to be handled by Ukraine.

Obama vow to speed deportation of children at odds with public opinion – Yahoo News

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Obama mistakenly said his Uncle Charlie had helped liberate Auschwitz. Payne’s infantry division liberated Ohrdruf, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp. Soviet forces liberated Auschwitz as they marched across Poland in January 1945. Payne told The Associated Press at the time that he was “truly astonished” by the attention paid to Obama’s flub, and called his nephew “truly an astounding young man.” Payne minimized his role in the liberation of Ohrdruf, but described the horrors he saw there, including a circle of dead inmates in rags and clearly near starvation when they were killed. “They were there with their tin cups like they were called to get food, then had been machine gunned,” he told the AP.

Obama Warns Russia Against Further Intervention in Ukraine – NASDAQ.com

The Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that 48 percent of Democrats believe the children should be cared for until it is safe for them to return home, against 30 percent of Republicans and 37 percent of people who identified themselves as independents. The question of where and how to house the children while they await deportation hearings has stirred strong responses in some communities where shelters were planned. There were fears the youngsters could bring crime and disease to neighborhoods and create an extra burden on public finances. Flag-waving demonstrations took place in border cities like Oracle, Arizona while local government in communities such as such as Murrieta, California, and League City, Texas, voted to reject any plan to build shelters. But the survey showed that the opposition to housing the children is not as widespread as the anti-immigrant images that dominated the media in recent weeks may have suggested.

Obama’s Great-Uncle Charles Payne Dies at Age 89 – ABC News

The White House said Obama would not attend and, as of Monday, had no plans to see Clinton while they are both on the island. Clinton, who lost to Obama in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary, has not said definitively whether she will run in 2016. But her decision to sit down for an in-depth interview about her foreign policy vision and to distinguish herself from the unpopular incumbent for whom she worked is the latest signal she’s seriously preparing for a bid. She described Obama’s “stupid stuff” doctrine as a political message and not his worldview, while also suggesting there’s a middle way to lead. “When you’re down on yourself, and when you are hunkering down and pulling back, you’re not going to make any better decisions than when you were aggressively, belligerently putting yourself forward,” she said. “One issue is that we don’t even tell our own story very well these days.” She expressed adherence to the idea that America has overall been a powerful force for advancing the http://www.obamastudentloanforgiveness.net/ cause of freedom, despite its missteps.
